This instructor-led class will move through the Ashtanga yoga sequence, in the tradition of Sri K Pattabhi Jois, starting with sun salutations and standing poses, and progressing into more difficult asanas (postures). This class will grow with the students as they become more familiar and confident with the poses and their sequencing. Ashtanga is the traditional form that other styles of flow yoga (Vinyasa, Power) are derived from. It is more physically demanding, as it involves synchronizing breathing with progressive and continuous series of postures, producing internal heat and a purifying sweat. The result is improved circulation, flexibility, stamina, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. This class will be led non-stop through the Primary Series, and students are encouraged to breathe as they move from pose to pose. All levels are welcome. Some prior knowledge of yoga poses recommended but not required.
