Instructors at Zin-Zen Yoga

Michelle, owner of Zin-Zen Yoga and a resident of Bedford, NH for 17 years, has been practicing yoga since 2001.  She completed her 200-hour YTT in Vinyasa Power Flow with Frog Lotus Yoga International and is an E-RYT200 and YACEP through Yoga Alliance. Beginning yoga for the physical benefits, her practice quickly grew to include strengthening and healing of the body, mind and soul. Yoga is one of her top passions, second only to her family, including her (now adult - yikes) two sons. In addition to a strong focus on alignment, Michelle’s goal is to provide her students with the guidance to find space both during class and in their daily lives to be present, accepting of their imperfections and appreciative of the simple things. She is described by students as being compassionate and nurturing, while at the same time encouraging them to explore their edge and continually grow their practice. She is excited to share in your practice and looks forward to seeing you on the mat.
Cassandra began practicing yoga while in college in NYC. She loved the feeling of peace and calm she experienced during each class and wanted to share this feeling and her love of yoga with others. She started her 200 hr Vinyasa Yoga teacher training in 2013 at Flor Yoga in Jersey City. Since then she has completed additional trainings in Children's Yoga and Yin Yoga, as well as a mentorship in Restorative Yoga at Pure Yoga in NYC. After living in the NYC area for nine years, Cassandra returned to her New Hampshire roots. She currently resides in Peterborough, NH with her husband, Kyle, their pitbull puppy and three cats. Cassandra's classes are accessible for all levels, and help connect the mind, body, and spirit.
Shannen began her practice in 2014, right here at Zin Zen Yoga! Initially practicing yoga to build physical strength and flexibility, she ended up falling in love with the calm, positive energy that she discovered on her mat. Shannen finds yoga helps bring balance to her life while both attending school and working. When Shannen is not practicing yoga she enjoys gardening, cooking, snowboarding, and spending time at her family’s beach house. Shannen’s classes consist of creative and energetic flows as she encourages her students to always try something new. Having completed her 200 hr YTT through Yoga Works in 2016, she is excited to share her passion for yoga with all of you!
Denise’s unexpected journey into Yoga has influenced and inspired every facet of her life in a positive way. “By practicing present moment awareness, Yoga continues to teach me greater understanding, acceptance and gratitude for all that life has to offer.” With over 13 years of diverse teaching experience, Denise cultivates creative and challenging sequences to inspire playful exploration and self-discovery. Denise is certified as a 200-hr Yoga Instructor, holding additional certifications in Thai Body Work, Reiki, Pilates, and Personal Training. Encouraging her students to trust their uniqueness, Denise celebrates our diversity while honoring the one force that unites us all.
Amanda, a graduate of the Yoga Works 200 hour yoga teacher training program, discovered yoga in college and found it was a great way to bring more balance into her hectic life as a student. She has been hooked ever since, and continues her practice as a way to manage stress, get a good stretch after working at her desk job, and explore the mind-body connection. Amanda looks forward to helping students grow in their practice and find their edge. When not in the studio, Amanda can usually be found crocheting, traveling, and enjoying the natural beauty of New Hampshire.
Steph began practicing yoga and meditation in college, as she searched for a natural way to manage the increased stress. As she continued to discover the benefits of nourishing her mind, body & spirit, while juggling the demands of a full-time job and life "off-the-mat," she found joy in sharing her lifestyle with others. Steph's goal is to guide busy individuals into ways of self-care that work with their schedules and preferences, making yoga and wellness accessible to everyone. She completed her 200 hour Vinyasa YTT at Barefoot Yoga Shala and holds additional certifications in Reiki and Personal Training. Her classes are accessible to all experience levels and focus on alignment, strength and mindfulness. She resides in Londonderry, NH with her fiancé and 2 black cats, and can often be found on a local hiking trail or curled up with a book.
An avid runner, Jennifer began practicing yoga more than a decade ago, seeking flexibility, and balance for her fast-paced lifestyle. She quickly fell in love with the practice, and the unique nourishment of mind, body, and spirit. In 2015, Jennifer completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training with Back Bay Yoga (now YogaWorks Back Bay) in Boston. She approaches her classes in a playful, lighthearted manner, that is well-suited to novice and longtime yogis alike!

Jenny Wan, RYT-200, is passionate about sharing the joy of yoga and meditation practice with the community. Jenny has been studying and practicing yoga since 2001. She has been teaching yoga and meditation for more than 3 years. Dedicated to guiding students to experience the benefits of a balanced yoga practice, she constructs poses with modifications so that everyone will find what is best for them.  Jenny is very caring and always pays attention to the individual and collective needs of the class. She tailors classes to accommodate students of all backgrounds and levels of yoga practice. Her teaching style focuses on healthy body alignments as well as deeper awareness of body, mind, and spirit connection. Her students will find joy, peace of mind and strength through their yoga practice. In her spare time, Jenny loves to spend time with family and connect with nature.

In some ways, Abby’s yoga journey began when she was in the fourth grade. Her mother had started taking yoga classes at the town’s rec center and she attempted “meditating” before a major spelling test. She would return to yoga again as an adult, first as a way to balance out her running regimen and later as a way to balance out stress and anxiety. She soon discovered the beauty in the mind-body connection, the sense of calm that can come when you embrace what yoga can offer, and the desire to pass this discovery on to the world. She became a 200-hour RYT in 2014 and teaches by the motto, “Yoga is exactly what you make of it and exactly what you need it to be.” Yoga comes in all shapes and sizes, and it will feel and mean something different to each person experiencing it. Abby approaches her classes in a warm, welcoming, and lighthearted manner, with an emphasis on finding the right variations that serves the student best.
Chris's path to yoga was a happy accident -- literally.  In 2015, Chris was involved in a serious road biking accident that broke his neck. While the injury was devastating, Chris says that without it, he wouldn't have been able to discover the wonderful path of yoga. He was introduced to yoga by a friend and immediately set about practicing and learning as much as he could. The flexibility, mobility, calm, and focus he found has been transformative. After discovering his natural knack for teaching, he acquired his 200hr YTT certification from Strength and Soul Yoga.

Chris spends much of his free time riding his many bicycles, and playing music (at least half of the time with his cat). When teaching, he focuses on syncing people's breath with movement, allowing the two to work in unison to calm the mind.
Although Olivia is not a yoga instructor, we are blessed to have her as the Studio and Boutique Assistant at Zin-Zen Yoga. Olivia grew up training in various styles of dance from a young age and went on to study dance in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania under the direction of Point Park University. As a dancer, she incorporated yoga and pilates into her lifestyle as a way to help prevent injury and strengthen her body in other ways outside the dance studio. She recently returned to her home state of New Hampshire and is looking forward to gaining more knowledge in her practice of yoga and being a part of the Zin-Zen Yoga family. You can find Olivia behind the desk, checking students in for classes, answering all your questions, and setting up the beautiful displays at The Boutique at Zin-Zen Yoga; along with assisting in all the other "behind-the-scenes" responsibilities that help to keep us up and running! Stop by and say hello!
Jenna took her first yoga class in 2010 and has been deepening and strengthening her practice ever since. With a degree in Early Childhood education, Jenna has been teaching preschool since 2009. Deciding to merge her passion for yoga and her love for working with children, in 2014 Jenna went on to receive her 19 hour children's yoga certification from ChildLight Yoga in Dover NH. Jenna loves being able to share the benefits of yoga in a fun and engaging way that reaches out and connects to children of all ages. She looks forward to sharing her yoga practice, songs, stories and some giggles with the children of the Zin-Zen Yoga community!

Mandi, a trained Ashtanga yoga instructor who received her 200hr YTT from Yoga NH admittedly likes to "mix it up and have fun" during her yoga practice.  With an additional 100 hour of training in yoga for mental health from Soulful Yoga Therapy, she uses yoga to help with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. Along with the physical practice, during her classes Mandi likes to integrate and lead others in strengthening qualities such as compassion, gratitude, and acceptance; while letting go of judgment, comparison and criticism.
Monica discovered the practice of yoga when she was pregnant with her daughter in 1997. Yoga was the beginning of her quest to get healthy. She lost 38 lbs. and began to eat healthier. She discovered quickly that yoga benefits more than just the physical body. She learned thru her yoga practice breathing techniques to help cope with extreme Anxiety Disorder, eliminating the need for medication.  Her love of yoga and desire to share the experience with others inspired her to complete her 200 hour teacher training in 2006 at Frog Lotus Yoga in North Adams, MA. Monica enjoys guiding students on a journey of their mind, body and spirit. She focuses on anatomy and alignment in the poses as well as the therapeutic benefits students receive in each pose. Monica enjoys teaching styles such as Gentle Flow, Yin Yoga, Restorative, Hatha, Beginner, Moderate and more. Monica believes that yoga is a journey meant to be enjoyed at all levels of ability.
